Events

Looking for a way to have fun this summer while making a positive contribution to your community? Look no further than the Shinerama campaign that is currently underway! As mentioned in the June blog, Shinerama is a charity drive held annually in Asper in support of those affected by cystic fibrosis. This month, the Shinerama campaign has multiple events running available to not only Asper students, but everyone and anyone who is interested!

Have you been surviving the heat by enjoying a nice cold beverage in the sun? Well, you don’t have to throw away those cans; instead, the Shine team will pick them up and recycle them for you through the Shinerama can collection drive! This event will be running after every long weekend in the summer and it is contactless- all you have to do is get your cans picked up or drop them off at one of the designated locations.

For all of the culinary artists out there looking to satisfy their sweet tooth, Shine is hosting a Baking Night on July 15th through Zoom! Tickets are available for $25 through Eventbrite and the ticket not only includes a fun night baking with friends but also an individual cake and decorating supplies!

Lastly, finish July with an artistic splash through the Shinerama Paint night being hosted on July 27th through Zoom. Tickets will be available for $20 (also through Eventbrite) and will include a paint kit for each participant. The night will be sure to be an exciting experience for those of all skill levels!

All of the funds raised through every event go directly to supporting individuals affected by and research regarding cystic fibrosis; to learn more about this disease be sure to check out the June edition of the CSA Scoop to hear more about CF and Shinerama! University Life

As much as it’s easy to feel like summer will last forever, registration is almost upon us for Fall 2021/Winter 2022 semesters! No need to panic though, the CSA Scoop is here to help and make sure you are all ready and prepared to prep your calendar to the max.

When Do I Register?

Registration time and date are different for each individual student. Your registration status can be viewed through your aurora account. Follow these steps to view your registration status.

  1. Log into your Aurora student account
  2. Click “Enrolment & Academic Records”
  3. Select “Registration and Exams”
  4. Click “Registration Time and Status”
  5. Use the drop-down menu to select the Fall 2021 term
  6. View your starting registration date and time and the end of your registration period

What Classes Do I Need?

Although there are some classes that every BComm student needs, depending on your year, availability, major, and preferences, your schedule should be uniquely tailored to fit your degree! Be sure to check in with an academic advisor if you have any specific questions about your degree and major course requirements. You can also run a degree audit through the UMAchieve platform to get more of an in-depth look at where you are at in your degree! More info on the UMAchieve platform can be found here:

How Do I Plan My Schedule?

Before your registration time, it is important to look into the available sections and times available for the classes you are wanting to take for the Fall 2021/Winter 2022 semesters. Take note of the time of days that will work best and be mindful of any conflicts that may arise. Be sure to note if a lab section is required for a course, as often that can shift your timetable. In the end, your schedule is up to you, make sure to be thorough and realistic in your planning process. If you are never able to get up before noon, classes bright and early may not be the best idea! Be sure to check things like classroom location and professor (where applicable) because these things may also have an effect on which sections you sign up for. Be mindful of other commitments and the number of classes that will be manageable and realistic for you. Also, keep in mind that this plan is not a final copy of your timetable. You could arrange a meticulous schedule to find out by your registration date, that some of the sections you had written down are now full! That’s why it never hurts to plan ahead with backups and alternatives, by keeping an eye on aurora prior to your registration to see availability.

Where do I View Course Sections and Officially Register?

Your aurora student account will be imperative for all things registration-related. In Aurora, you can search courses, class sections, availability, register for courses, and much more! If this is your first time registering for courses (or if you feel rusty on your skills) check out the following videos set up on how to complete all things registration-related from your aurora account:

https://umanitoba.ca/student/records/tutorial/index.html

Keep In Mind:

  1. Availability for courses changes constantly as people add and drop courses, joining a waitlist is always a good option to work towards getting the courses you need.
  2. If you have any holds, academic standing, or student status restrictions that could possibly interfere with your registration experience, check this in aurora or speak with an academic advisor if this applies to you.
  3. Although planning is important, remember to be flexible and open during registration if your plan has to change for the time being as there are often different options for other sections of the class you can look into.
  4. Do not wait to register! Classes can fill up fast so be sure to sign up for your courses as soon as you have the chance!
  5. Registration is not necessarily your final timetable, you can still drop courses up until the deadline for refunds and add courses as needed up until the deadline to add courses. If you need to drop after the deadline has passed, voluntarily withdrawing (VW) from a course is always an option.

Be sure not to be stressed about registration, as long as you have a plan and keep calm you will be able to sort out the classes you need! Although it’s fun to enjoy the summer sun right now, your future self will be thanking you for thinking ahead to the upcoming Fall/Winter semesters and planning a workload and schedule that is ideal!
